For this post, I have planned to answer questions, which I asked you all to do on my Instagram story and through text. I received a set of great questions, which I was so excited to answer. I had been planning to do something like this for a while and finally, I’m doing this.
Question: What countries have you traveled to?
Answer: Being fortunate enough I have visited A LOT of places for a 17-year-old. I have been to Italy🇮🇹 , the United Kingdom🇬🇧, the United States🇺🇸, the Bahamas 🇧🇸 , Thailand 🇹🇭 , Indonesia 🇮🇩 , China 🇨🇳 , Spain🇪🇸, Germany🇩🇪, Turkey 🇹🇷 , Greece 🇬🇷 , Iceland 🇮🇸 , Denmark 🇩🇰 , the Faroe Islands 🇫🇴 , Finland 🇫🇮 , UAE 🇦🇪 , Kenya 🇰🇪 , Netherlands 🇳🇱 , Vatican City, Bhutan 🇧🇹 , Austria 🇦🇹 and obviously India🇮🇳.
Question: What is your next travel destination?
Answer: Nothing planned so far, but it could be Lofoten Islands in Norway.
Question: Can you please make a list of travel essentials, because I always tend to forget something?
Answer: Definitely, I already have a post on Essentials When Traveling in Air Crafts, you can go check it out.
If you find not brushing your teeth horrible for so many hours, I came across a very useful hack a few days back, wherein you can squeeze drops of toothpaste on a parchment paper and sprinkle baking soda onto it and let it solidify, which can take up to 2-3 days. Once solid pop them in a container and carry onto flights. To use it just chew the paste and brush your teeth! This is a hack I am definitely using for my next journey!
Question: What is your favorite travel destination?
Answer: From what you all can probably tell, my favorite travel destination happens to be Iceland. Apart from Iceland I absolutely love the Faroe Islands and New York City. Trust me it’s very hard to actually even choose a favorite destination because every place I have been to has been beautiful in its own way.
Question: What’s your youtube account?
Answer: Its Doses of Fernweh.
Question: Local street food while traveling or dining in a fancy restaurant?
Answer: While traveling I obviously prefer trying local food. So in a way, local street food but some places have some amazing fine dining restaurants which serve local street food with a different twist and that too is great to try. But I would genuinely suggest everyone to indulge in local street food and try new things because I know a few people who will never get out of their comfort zone. I have tried something as crazy as grass-jelly, and it was actually pretty good.
Question: If you had to travel to a small country, that’s still developing, which would it be?
Answer: If I had to travel to a small country, that’s still developing, it would be Egypt, Croatia or South Africa.
Question: How do you pack to make it more spacious?
Answer: To be very honest, I probably one person who packs very little and still manages to have zero space in my suitcase. But go onto youtube and find ways to do so, because I cannot guide you with that, haha.
Question: What are some travel essentials you swear by?
Answer: Except for the list of essentials I have attached above, I feel that until and unless you haven’t researched your destination and don’t have an itinerary, you are not fully prepared. Every country or city you travel has hidden gems and you can only make the most of them if you’ve read enough.
Another travel essential is to be prepared for any kind of weather or sickness, so always carry extra clothes and medicines.
Question: What do you do on flights and how do you cut time?
Answer: Flights can be long and tiring, but my go-to things to do are
- Watch movies and TV show episodes on the plane
- If you’re too picky then download episodes and movies onto your phone and watch those
- If you’re traveling with someone carry cards or UNO, it’s a good time pass
- Read a book, it’s super quiet and peaceful making it easier to read on flights
- This is strange, but take pictures (haha)
- Download some great music and make playlists on the flight
- If you like drawing, you could draw small sketches
- Sort out pictures from your phone! I’m pretty sure most of us have unnecessary screenshots on our phones, so go clean your phone
- If you’re creative and love writing, carry a journal and write, or write things on the notes of your phone
Question: Do you prefer beach holidays or city holidays?
Answer: Really depends on what I’m in the mood for. Beaches and cities have their own charm. If I really have to choose though, I think a city destination.
Question: What is better: exploring like a local in the city or going to touristy destinations?
Answer: Definitely, exploring like a local. You should obviously visit the main tourist attractions but exploring a city gives a whole different view of it. Touristy destinations also happen to be very very very crowded, so it’s better you explore the city at your pace and however, you like.
Question: What really attracts you to a place?
Answer: Maybe a place surrounded by nature, or just a different place completely. It’s really the urge to explore. So many times, when people ask me why I travel to such different places, and it’s because we now travel for the sake of it. I see so many people traveling to 6-8 cities in different countries over 20 days and I don’t understand how you’ve really even discovered a place.
Question: How do you deal with wanderlust when you can’t travel?
Answer: Most of the time, you will find me crying about much I want to travel or go back to Iceland (and I mean literal tears). I mostly watch my youtube videos, go through my photos or even just go online and search up countries and look at pictures. And obviously, blogging about travel!!
Question: How do you list down your favorite places? (criteria)
Answer: It’s honestly very hard for me to actually choose my favorite places, but I usually list them by the way I felt leaving the country and whether I still constantly wish to go back there. I think it shows how a place has actually stolen your heart.
Question: What do you think is the deal-breaker for a holiday?
Answer: The biggest deal-breaker on a good holiday had got to be bumping into people you know or who are from the same country you’re from, even if this sounds horrible, it’s very true.
Question: If you could swim with dolphins or go shark diving, which would you pick?
Answer: This is very tough to choose from because I LOVE the ocean, and particularly dolphins. I feel like because I’ve swum with dolphins before I would definitley want to go shark diving now.
Question: What place is on the top of your bucket list?
Answer: It has definitely got to be Bora Bora, French Polynesia or Machu Picchu, Peru.
Question: What is the one thing you cannot travel without?
Answer: My camera, how else am I supposed to capture memories.
Question: Do you prefer solo travel or with someone else?
Answer: I have never traveled solo, so I really want to experience that. Once I do, I will get back to you with the answer.
Question: Machu Picchu or Angkor Wat?
Answer: MACHU PICCHU
Question: Who is the one person at home that you miss the most when you travel?
Answer: Either my dog or my best friend. I have days where I miss them both because traveling with them would be amazing.
Question: What is your preferred mode of travel?
Answer: I think the best way and not just my preferred way of traveling in a country is to hire and rent a car. It makes things so much easier.
Question: Would travel with style or comfort?
Answer: Depending on where I’m going, honestly. If I am traveling to say Iceland, then comfort and if to London, then style.
Question: What has travel taught you and how has it changed you?
Answer: Traveling is the best teacher, I cannot point out something particulary but it has added to my knowledge and it has widened my horizons so much. Travel has made me a more focused and less distracted girl, it has taught me to look at the bigger picture and at the same time to notice the samllest details.
